FACULTY COUNCIL

The Academic Council is a professional body that operates in a broader composition (hereinafter referred to as: the Council in broader composition) and in a narrower composition (hereinafter referred to as: the Faculty Council), which works on a delegate principle.

The Council in broader composition consists of teachers and associates, elected to titles at the Faculty, who are employed full-time at the University of East Sarajevo, as well as teachers and associates from the scientific fields of medicine and health who work additionally and are employed full-time in a health institution that serves as a teaching base for the University/Faculty and has been granted the title of “university” (University Hospital in Foča), and student representatives (regular students), provided that student representation cannot be less than 15% nor more than 22% of the total number of members of the Council in broader composition.

The Council in broader composition makes a proposal for the decision on the appointment or dismissal of the Dean of the Faculty and discusses the status issues of the Faculty, while all other matters within the competence of the Academic Council are discussed by the Faculty Council.

The Faculty Council consists of representatives of the departments, i.e., two representatives from each department who are members of the Council in broader composition, typically in the highest ranks, delegated/appointed by the department, the Dean and Vice Deans, as well as student representatives, provided that student representation in the Council cannot be less than 15% nor more than 22% of the total number of members of the delegate Council.

The decision on the appointment of Council members, made at the Department meeting, is submitted to the Dean of the Faculty.

The mandate of the members of the Council in narrower composition lasts for 4 years, or until the end of the Dean’s mandate, except for student representatives whose mandate lasts for one academic year.

The Council in broader composition and the Faculty Council make decisions within their competence by a majority vote of the total number of Council members who are legally entitled to vote.

Council members can vote “FOR” or “AGAINST” a specific proposal during decision-making.

A Council member may abstain from voting if the Council is deciding on a right, obligation, or responsibility of that member, their spouse/common-law partner, or a person with whom they are related by blood in a direct or collateral line, up to and including the first degree.
