LIBRARY

The library collection of the Faculty of Medicine in Foča consists of 13,665 library units of professional medical literature. Of these, 5,577 are monographic publications (books) in Serbian, 4,413 in foreign languages (English), and 1,890 serial publications (journals). Monographs, dictionaries, manuals, and encyclopedias make up 174 library units, while master’s theses and doctoral dissertations account for 1,451. Additionally, the Faculty of Medicine is a member of the KOBRS project, allowing online access to the KOBRS database.

The library provides services to students of all departments of the Faculty of Medicine by acquiring and lending essential literature for exam preparation. Moreover, the library collection is also intended for the professional development of specialists, postgraduate students, and other medical professionals. The library continuously acquires new editions of textbooks and other professional literature, ensuring the collection remains current and allowing access to the latest scientific knowledge in the field of medical sciences. The limited number of copies of certain textbooks available to a larger number of students is addressed through specific usage conditions regulated by the library.

The library has its own reading space (within the library) with four computers connected to the internet. Additionally, students have access to a reading room within the faculty with 25 reading spots, as well as a city reading room with 70 seats. The faculty also has an electronic reading room (computer center) with 32 computers and permanent internet access.

Library material usage is tracked through an electronic database created in MS Access, modeled after standard library programs, as well as KOBIS loans.

The Library of the Faculty of Medicine in Foča collaborates with the library of the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo, as well as the libraries of the Medical and Dental Faculties in Belgrade, in the form of exchanging necessary scientific information, master’s theses, doctoral dissertations, and other library materials.

The Library of the Faculty of Medicine operates in accordance with the Law on Library and Information Activities, which came into force on June 3, 2016.

The establishment and operation of the library are regulated by the Library Work Regulations of the Faculty of Medicine, No. 01-3-122 of October 3, 2011.

Faculty employees and students during the 2023/24 academic year have access to three research databases: EBSCO (https://search.ebscohost.com/), Research4Life (https://www.research4life.org/), and HeinOnline (https://heinonline.org/HOL/Welcome), which provide a large number of scientific journals and books in electronic format across various scientific fields. The EBSCO service-aggregate platform allows access to the following EBSCO databases: Academic Search Ultimate and eBook Subscription Academic Collection. Academic Search Ultimate provides access to approximately 15,366 different full-text journals, including 3,078 journals indexed in Web of Science or Scopus. The eBook Subscription Academic Collection contains a large number of multidisciplinary e-book titles. Research4Life provides access to around 111,255 books, about 28,920 journals, and 129 other sources. This bibliographic database includes the following programs: Research for Health (Hinari – http://extranet.who.int/hinari/en/journals.php), Research in Agriculture (AGORA – http://agora-journals.fao.org/content/en/journals.php), Research in the Environment (OARE – http://oare.research4life.org/content/en/journals.php), Research for Development and Innovation (ARDI – http://ardi.wipo.int/content/en/journals.php), Research for Global Justice (GOALI – http://goali.ilo.org/content/en/journals.php). HeinOnline is a bibliographic database that includes more than 3,100 journals on various topics. Access to the aforementioned bibliographic databases is available to all employees both on and off the premises of the University member institutions.

In October 2022, the Regulations on the Digital Repository of Doctoral Dissertations Defended at the University of East Sarajevo were adopted, establishing the Digital Repository of Doctoral Dissertations of the University of East Sarajevo to increase the visibility of the scientific research results of all University members (https://repozitorijum.ues.rs.ba). The digital repository stores doctoral dissertations defended at the University after the regulations came into effect, and faculty members who defended their dissertations before the regulations came into force can also deposit their dissertations. In 2023, the digital repository Vaseljena (http://vaseljena.ues.rs.ba/home) was established, where all scientific papers and books published in open access by the University’s faculty and associates, including those from the Faculty of Medicine, are permanently stored. Librarians are responsible for explaining to authors how to upload publications.
